Julie Postel kept a girls' school at Barfleur when the Revolution outlawed priests; she turned her house into a clandestine oratory, kept the Blessed Sacrament there for ten years and attended the dying for want of a priest. With calm restored she founded in 1807, at fifty, a congregation devoted to the instruction of poor girls, which nearly died twice before settling in 1832 in the ruined abbey of Saint-Sauveur-le-Vicomte, which she rebuilt stone by stone. She died at eighty-nine; her congregation then numbered thirty-seven houses.
