The gospels show her three times. First asking Christ that her two sons might sit at his right and left in his kingdom — a mother's request, to which he answers by speaking of the cup that must be drunk. Then at Calvary, among the women who, Mark says, were watching from afar, when the apostles had fled. Finally on Easter morning, bringing spices to the tomb: hence her Greek title of myrrhbearer, and her rank as witness of the Resurrection. The Roman Martyrology commemorates her on 24 April with Mary of Clopas; the East keeps her feast on 3 August and on the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers.
