Son of poor peasants from the Sarcidano, Ignatius entered the Capuchins of Cagliari at twenty and at forty was given the office of alms-gatherer — the friary's beggar. He kept it for four decades, walking the same streets each day, known to the whole city and refusing alms from houses whose money he knew to be ill-gotten. The people of Cagliari attributed healings to him while he lived. Blind at the end, he died in 1781 and was canonised by Pius XII in 1951.
