Devota

Saint Devota is a Christian virgin and martyr who lived in the 3rd century. Originally from Mariana in Corsica, she suffered martyrdom under Emperors Diocletian and Maximian Hercules around 304 AD for refusing to renounce her faith. According to tradition, her body was stolen after her death and placed on a boat by the faithful to prevent desecration. The boat miraculously washed ashore on the coast of Monaco, guided by a dove, where a chapel was built in her honor. She is venerated as the patron saint of Corsica and, especially, of the Principality of Monaco, where her feast is celebrated with great devotion.
