Portrait — Margaret of Hungary

Born a royal princess of Hungary, daughter of King Béla IV, Margaret was dedicated to God by her parents for the salvation of the kingdom during the Mongol invasion. She entered the Dominican convent on the Isle of the Virgin (now Margaret Island) in Budapest at a very young age, where she lived a life of humility, rigorous asceticism, and deep piety, refusing royal marriages to remain faithful to her vows.
