Stephen I of Hungary
The last Grand Prince of the Magyars and the first crowned ruler of that people, he reigned from 1000 or 1001 until his death in 1038. He is credited with establishing Christianity among his subjects and laying the foundations of a stable kingdom recognized by the West.

Stephen I, born Vajk, was the last Grand Prince and the first King of Hungary, reigning from 1000/1001 until his death in 1038. He is venerated as the founder of the Hungarian state and the principal architect of its Christianization. During his reign, he unified the Magyar tribes, established a robust ecclesiastical structure with the creation of dioceses, and promulgated laws to support the new religion and the emerging feudal society. He received the royal crown from Pope Sylvester II, marking Hungary's integration into Western Christendom. His work was fundamental for the lasting establishment of Christianity and the consolidation of the Kingdom of Hungary.
