Philip the Apostle

Originally from Bethsaida in Galilee, Philip was one of the first disciples called by Jesus, right after Andrew and Peter. He is mentioned in the Synoptic Gospels and, more significantly, in the Gospel of John, where he is often associated with Andrew. It is to him that Jesus asks where to buy bread for the crowd before the multiplication of the loaves (John 6:5-7). He is also the one who brings Nathanael (Bartholomew) to Jesus (John 1:43-51) and, with Andrew, presents some Greeks to Jesus (John 12:20-22). During the Last Supper, Philip asks Jesus to show them the Father (John 14:8), to which Jesus replies: 'Whoever has seen me has seen the Father' (John 14:9). According to tradition, after Pentecost, Philip evangelized in Scythia, Greece, and then Phrygia, where he is said to have been martyred by crucifixion in Hierapolis, probably around 80 AD.
