Blaise of Sebastea
A physician who rose to the dignity of bishop in Armenia, martyred in the 4th century. He is called upon for healing and protection against throat ailments.

Born in Armenia, Saint Blaise was a renowned physician before becoming Bishop of Sebastea (modern-day Sivas, Turkey). He is best known for his persecution under Emperor Licinius in the early 4th century. Arrested and imprisoned, legend states that he cured a child choking on a fishbone, which is the origin of his patronage for throat illnesses. He was martyred by decapitation after being tortured with iron combs, making him the patron saint of wool combers. He is also one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, invoked for various afflictions.
