Gabriel

An archangel mentioned in both the Hebrew and Christian scriptures, Gabriel is primarily known as God's messenger. His name means "God is my strength". In the Old Testament, he appears to the prophet Daniel to interpret visions for him. In the New Testament, he announces to Zechariah the birth of John the Baptist, and most famously to the Virgin Mary the conception of Jesus during the Annunciation. He is thus the bearer of great divine revelations and a witness to the mysteries of the Incarnation. He is venerated for his role in salvation history and his faithfulness to God's will.
