Quentin of Vermand

Saint Quentin was, according to tradition, a Roman citizen of senatorial origin, who came to evangelize Gaul, particularly the Vermandois region. He was arrested under Emperor Maximian Herculius or Diocletian, cruelly tortured, and then beheaded near the Somme river. His body was thrown into the river but was reportedly recovered later and buried, leading to the construction of a basilica and the founding of the city of Saint-Quentin.
