Saint Anthony of Padua, born Ferdinand of Bouillon (or Fernando Martins de Bulhões) in Lisbon around 1195, was a Portuguese Franciscan priest. Gifted with exceptional eloquence and theological knowledge, he was a fervent preacher and a renowned teacher, traveling through Italy and France to teach and convert. He is particularly famous for his ability to bring heretics back to the faith and for the many miracles attributed to him, notably that of the fish who listened to his preaching. He is a Doctor of the Church, proclaimed in 1946 by Pope Pius XII. His popular devotion is immense, particularly for finding lost objects.
