Winwaloe of Landévennec
Monk of the 5th and 6th centuries, disciple of Saint Budoc, he founded a monastery where he became the first abbot. A spiritual guide and major figure of the Christianization of Armorica, he is honored as one of the seven great founding saints.

Saint Winwaloe was born in Armorica (present-day Brittany) to noble Breton parents who were refugees from across the Channel. Educated by Saint Budoc, he was inspired by monastic life. Around 485, he founded Landévennec Abbey, on the banks of the Aulne river in Finistère. This monastery became an important center for monastic life and early Breton culture. Winwaloe was its first abbot and an influential spiritual guide for his monks. His life is a testament to the evangelization of Brittany and the establishment of the first ecclesiastical structures in the region.
