Portrait — Aubin of Angers

Saint Aubin, born around 469 in the region of Vannes, embraced monastic life at an early age at the monastery of Tincillac, where he became abbot for 25 years. In 529, he was elected bishop of Angers. His episcopate was marked by ardent zeal for faith and justice. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to the poor, the sick, and prisoners, even selling sacred vessels to ransom captives. He fought vigorously against incestuous marriages, the abuses of the powerful, and simony, distinguishing himself at the councils of Orléans (538, 541, 549), where he defended the discipline of the Church. He died in 550 and was buried at Saint-Pierre; his relics were later transferred to the church dedicated to him in Angers.
