Modestus of Trier
Bishop in the 5th century, was forced into exile by barbarian invasions and died in Alsace around 480, recognized as a confessor of the faith.

Saint Modestus was the fourteenth Bishop of Trier, succeeding Saint Cyril. His episcopate occurred during a period of great instability, marked by the decline of the Western Roman Empire and Germanic invasions. He was forced to flee Trier, then a major but besieged city, possibly taking important relics with him. He died in exile in Alsace around 480. His fidelity to his faith and his people in the face of adversity earned him the title of Confessor.
