Joseph Husband of Mary, Foster Father of Jesus

Saint Joseph is a central figure in Christianity, recognized as the husband of the Virgin Mary and the foster father of Jesus Christ. His life is primarily recounted in the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, although he is presented with great discretion, uttering no words. Descended from the lineage of David, he was a carpenter or artisan, a profession that highlights his humility and ability to provide for his family. His faith and obedience to divine will are demonstrated by his acceptance of the mystery of the Incarnation, following the angel's announcement in a dream, and by his protection of the Holy Family during the flight into Egypt. A model of virtue, silence, work, and fatherhood, he is the patron of the Universal Church, fathers, workers, and is invoked for a happy death.
