Saint Martina was a noble and very pious Roman virgin, martyred during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus (222-235). Accused of not worshipping pagan gods, she was subjected to numerous tortures but remained steadfast in her faith. Her relics, rediscovered in the 17th century, rest in the Church of Saints Luke and Martina in Rome. She is venerated as one of the protectors of Rome.
