Thomas

Thomas, also known as Didymus (Greek for 'twin'), was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. He is most famously known for his initial doubt regarding the resurrection of Jesus, stating he would not believe unless he saw and touched Jesus' wounds. Eight days later, Jesus appeared again and invited Thomas to touch his side and hands, prompting Thomas's profound declaration, 'My Lord and my God!' (John 20:28). This event cemented his legacy as 'Doubting Thomas' but also highlighted his deep faith once convinced. After Pentecost, tradition holds that Thomas embarked on missionary journeys, most notably to the East. He is widely venerated as the apostle to India, where he is believed to have established Christian communities, particularly along the Malabar Coast (Kerala), and to have been martyred near Mylapore (Chennai) by a spear. His tomb is traditionally located at San Thome Basilica in Chennai. He is venerated as the patron saint of architects, builders, and India.
